The only reason this mode is useful (restarting and making it into a hardrive mode) is because you won't be charging your ipod when in this mode, so you won't ruin your battery.

Thank you for sharing. Would you mind helping me? I know everything about nothing and want to know more. I have a 120GB iPOD I stumbled onto doing my job this summer, I have no software for it but bought a cord to plug it into my macbook pro, this thing has a ton of room on it but I cant figure out how to down load more music onto it without deleting the 13000 songs already on it? I was able to load my pictures on it but itunes is not letting me load it or unload it to and from my files? P/HELP

There is an application called iPod Viewer which can download any song from your iPod that's synced to another computer. You can use it to download the songs and import them into iTunes.
