Here is a sea star moving. I'm not sure whether it's reacting to the mussel I gave it, or whether it's just righting itself.
I'm not sure about the species though, looks and feels like some sort of Pisaster though.
Any identification help would would be great!
it is not crushing the mussel..
sea stars..They push their stomach out through their mouth (located on the underside of the sea star) and digest the prey.

it's probably getting ready to pry open the mussel since sea stars are predators (not brittle stars...) and protrude its stomach into the shell.

the bottom of a starfish looks sooo gross its all moving and the bottom is gross but i love starfosh can someone give me some small scecies of starfish

@Loodna Its not crushing it. The seastar is using it's tube feet to pry open the mussel so that it can push its stomach into the mussel shell to digest it. Typically stars do not eat upside down. If you have ever seen a seastar that looks humped up it is more than likely feeding. The species in this picture looks like a painted seastar. Pisaster or ochre star's arms are not as long as the one in this video.
