I guess you're referring to East Germany, Soviet etc.

These countries were tyrannies and had nothing to with what Harvey is talking about.

Any way Religion and Empire expansion has got to be on top of the list.

And NOT Marxism (I would argue real Marxism hasn't killed anyone since it hasn't been implemented in any society i know of)

Bunch of non-sequitirs - comparing two industrialized giants with peasant strewn backwaters like China and Russia. These countries had always suffered famines- but of course history only started post communism according to the West. I'd hazard a guess you are totally ignorant of Chinese and Russian history before communism. I personally wish China and Russia hadn't had communist revolutions - they weren't ready - but brutalized poor countries are attracted to the ideology - for obvious reasons

Trev moffatt - "Death by Government" - Mass starvation discussed. Question: Why in democratic countries, is this fairly rare IE: starvation to death"? In the States, as in Canada through the dust bowls of the 30's - farmers - owning their own land and means of production struggled against environmental conditions to get thier crops off. Through this produced enough that mass starvation minimized. People owning their own land & means of production "as it is thier stuff" try harder or improvise.
