That's true about the English Language faculties; they're all socialists. Maybe it's too much of Carol Ann Duffy...

And a Kierkegaardian dizziness when they consider their personal prospects outside of the ivory tower if they don't turn the rest of the world into a giant school.

Literature studies is a bin where they send all of the nutters who they used to take seriously and know they can't fire.

Freudians from psychology
Marxists from economics
Feminists from anything credible

All of them go trawling into the lit. faculty with their organic shoes, pashmina scarves and Leonard Cohen CDs.

@fomastephanovitch

So they're ideological sponges who, after taking their degree, panic upon the realisation that their studies imbue them with no practical abilities.

But, is this coming from a philosophy student?

No, it's because they hate the reality that people have varying degrees of ability and that if left alone, which really is not too much to ask of a government, they will have to watch people who they regard as below them make more money than they do.

This is why it is popular amongst the "intelligensia" - it's both solipsistic and it praises them as a functional elite vanguard.

They esp. hate libertarianism because it demonstrates the redundancy of continental rationalism - their livelihood.

@IamTheRealSolidSnerk Obviously. There really isn't any "change we can believe in".
