All right, so, this is my first venture with Windows Movie Maker. I realize that I suck at Microsoft Paint. I realize that this isn't funny at all. But I wanted to give WMM a spin, and it turned out pretty well by my standards. So, flame away, but respect the music. Neutral Milk Hotel is a pretty epic band.

  • The first time I watched this, I was shaking and convulsing from laughing so hard.

The second time I watched it, I was like, "What the fuck? Why was I laughing at this two minutes ago?"

After watching it a third time, I now understand that it is a genius piece of art. Thank you.

  • @oxfordye huh, i actually never thought of it like that. not bad.

  • 'Dad would throw the garbage all across the floor' could refer to domestic abuse? Because he treats the mother like garbage. If you listen to the line previous that, it kind of makes sense.

  • @BlackStarKeepShining

There are a lot of motifs and recurring themes I've noticed on repeated listens, such as spines, semen, flowers, Anne Frank, as well as a lot of, (what appear to be) sexual euphemisms and references to growing up ('I will spit until I learn how to speak')

Overall, I think the mystery that surrounds this album is what makes it so compelling, I don't think I want to find out what it's really about, because the abstract lyricism is part of its appeal.

  • I love this song! Among my favorites ever!

  • I AM YOUR FUCKING KING

  • could you please upload a instrumental version?

  • yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • @gwillig

...youre kidding right? "In only ratlenakes that fell all around your feet" doesnt even make sense... well... considering the obscurity of his lyrics... it doesnt make even more sense than the real lyrics do. which by the way, is "In holy rattlesnakes that fell around your feet." iown the cd. its in the booklet. right next to him saying something about pt 2 being for jesus christ and everything having an eternal light in them.

  • never realized how depressing this song was til the video came out

  • @Alonb64 Me personally listening to the lyrics. Seems hes talking about a brother and sister. That whole section of the song kinda makes it clear. You know mum and dad arguing as we (the siblings) would lay and discover our bodies.
