They're frightened by it because it points out truths about what our society could become, but they don't want to face that reality. Just like everyone in the book.

i love this book were reading it in class right now andd i think everyone should read it at lease once. i absoutly hate reading but when its being read aloud i love, its probley the only book i would tell people to read it makes u look at the world diffrently

Just finished it in school. Look at the significance of it. What kind of place is this? No color, no weather, no happy memories of the bad. The word "love", one of the most affectionate words to use, has no significance in this community.

I remember reading this book in 5th grade for the first time and I liked it. Now I'm a Senior in high school and I just finished reading it a couple of minutes ago.
I absolutley LOVED it.
