You shouldn't melt your solder on the soldering iron, this results in a "cold solder joint". You should heat the wire, until the wire can melt the solder, this will ensure a permanent connection.

@JOHNNYCOMEKILLU if you use a different LED it is a lot brighter, try a white led instead of green too

I see many tutorials that use transistor. Why your tutorial is not using a transistor?
