"skills over gear". Put me In a Nordic winter I want skill with gear . A axe takes much skill . Is a little knife as good as a machete , axe or saw , No way. It's all a compromise . He's just making a point , don't rely .. Even on having a knife ! But please DO Not hike into the Alaskan Wilderness with just a mora ! Tools and skill go hand and hand . Mora knives break and bend. I do love mora knives though .. Carry two of them
daily.
