Z1 is a very good camcorder, I like its most the NTSC and PAL capability, I shoot news in Canada and send to China CCTV in PAL mode, and NTSC mode in Canada for wedding, performance show etc. but this camcorder manual control is far on the back of the Canon Camorder. In most case, manual control is essential.

I prefer the z-1 cause it uses ccds which are more reliable in different lighting situations.

I'm thinking of getting the Z5 because it's s new it's hard to find many reviews on it. But is the Z5 really going to be far more superior?

what about the hvr v1u it does 1,080 lines of progressive scan resolution. HVR Z1 But it is a good loooking camera.

so the Z5 is coming on December,isn't it the Z5 is much much better than the Z1? the minimum illumination of Z1 is like 3 LUX and the Z5 is 1.5 LUX! and Z5 is absolutely the best HDV cam sony made so far,so how do you think?

Besides the networks dont take hdv, they take dv cam, xd cam or dvc pro 50. I am not saying the ex is bad. no its a beautifful camera, and if you make pictures with the right light conditions and with years of experience you can create a really awesome picture, better than the z1. butnot everyone has that experience or has always access to light.

It's more reliable, especially in low light, bad weather conditions and of course the quality of the foocus is much better. I film for a news agency that often covers stories for cnn, the bbc and other networks. It's really difficult (i dont say it can not happen) to break a Z1, even in the worst conditions (think war, hurricanes and deserts) it still performs great, the EX is much more fragile.

How is it better than the ex1? ex3? THE HVR Z1 does 1080i . EX 1 AND 3 DOES 1080p
