Sorry about the quality of the text when showing clips from inside Hammer, the video is compiled in proper 1920 x 1080, and it looks fine in the wmv file. Youtube makes the text look all pixellated at the moment, I hope they improve the definition as time goes on or I'll move back to 720p.

  • Is it me or Don't Prop_static emit shadows?

    PS: I'm using L4D2SDK

  • @foxxthefox Yeah they probably do. Just not very well.

  • Dear phillip,

I hope you can help me

First off, your tutorials are awesome. You have really helped allot of people

Now for my problem. I have done everything you showed me to do to get lighting working.

Step 1, I create the skybox, by placing a block around the map and hollow it, then paint the surfaces skybox texture.

Step 2 add the light_env, and point it down.

Yet I have no shadows, ive tried to add a blocklight, reload sourcesdk, nothing.

Please contact me on skunkie1991 at steam.

    Thanks

  • @skunkercict Upload your map's vmf file to a site like mediafire, then PM me a link to the map, explaining the problem in the PM so that I know what I'm looking for when I look at your map.

  • what was the smoke effect used for the chimney?

  • @toiletbrush169 Probably env_smokestack

  • @T3hGearos Fair enough. I now get criticised for my first videos being at such a low resolution, since now things have moved on. I feel that 1080p will be the standard in a couple of years from now, so it's a bit of a problem. I've decided to stick to 720p because of the reasons you've given. Also, it means a higher framerate when recording, smaller file size and shorter render time, all of which benefit me when making them. And because half the time I only have a 1680x1050 monitor :P

  • I want to make a security thing so when you go through a section of the map doors will shut and kill you. I also have lights in there and when the doors shut, I want the lights to change to red but the colours before the doors shut are green. How to do that?

  • what should i used for indoor maps

  • how do you do it for portal?

  • can i use this for a indoor map ? or its only for outdoor ?

  • Hey, how do i make indoor shadows/light? I can`t find a video on it!

  • I remember a very long time ago I didn't know how to make light_environment.

I would place a whole bunch of light_Entities above my map. It never looked good.

  • How come I don't have any Shadows in mine?
