I say this with pride. It was in 1964 and i was a fireman on the great western railway stationed at southall at the ripe old age of 17. My foreman asked myself and the driver to take the Evening star to Old oak common on its last journey. Thousands of people took photos and it was the proudest moment of my life. Those were the days. Mick.

I say she's a beauty. As long as any 9F's, Evening Star was the famous of the 9F class. This how stupid BR is. Scrapping our steam locomotives. Anyways, 2 people must have being using the modern diesels.

Well you see its because `they` dont wont the population to be happy about things like this anymore. We are in times of `Austerity` now boys. Things are never gonna change,so dont look for it?

I bet the stoker has got a sweat on hoofing coal in the fire box But just think all that bacon cooked on the shovel I still can taste it and with bits of ash in it never done me any harm..

Definitly, atleat they have plans for Dutchess of Hamilton to be returned to steam. Obviously things like Mallard would not be returned to steam. but 92220 has only saw 5 years BR Service, and it has not seen mutch as a preseeved loco

As the last BR loco built she ought to be kept in running order- no questions asked- 155 odd years of loco history behind her- she should be a standard bearer for live steam..
For me that is the number one film on you-tube of steam locos and super quality sound ...pure steam magic ...thanks so much

Great Video, love evening star. It's a shame she is not in steam anymore, I think she should be returned to steam but the NRM being the NRM, I can't see it hapenning

I agree completely with you, even as a flag bearer for the NRM on preserved would be better than just being stuffed and mounted

This bringsback memores of many SLOA-organised trips that I've doneover the Setle and Carlisle line - always a thrill to see and hear a steam locomotive at work, and to see the magnificent Yorkshire countryside.

Thanks, I did a lot of those SLOA trips myself, used to film one week and travel the next, great days.
