  • What kind of top is he wearing? All the kimonos I can find have much shorter and wider sleeves. Where can I find a top like that with longer and thinner sleeves?

  • @0ldSandwich I don't know where he got his, but I bought mine as a combo (top, belt, and hakama) meant for iaido. Kendo tops are a little different, so when shopping, make sure you put "iaido" in any search field.

  • @0ldSandwich From what I know It is call a Kego Gi

  • @BruceLeeFan91 Thanks - I have no idea of the actual name, and while he may have mentioned it in class, I don't have a very good memory for Japanese!

  • So in this Martial Art you wear the hakama strait away?

    This is a noble Art:)

  • At quite a few schools students are not taught these kinds of basics. People tend to dismiss it as unimportant. Thank you for this instruction!

  • @0ldSandwich I believe it's called a "keiko dogi", or training gi/uniform. I've found them in local martial art stores, though they're usually a set of white jacket and pants not always intended for iaido. Look around, perhaps order on the internet, til you find a colour your club accepts and a style that suits you!

  • Thank you for the useful information. Much appreciated.

  • @Xevnest24 So yes, you were right: slow moving Americans have to plan ahead, experienced Japanese aren't bothered at all.

  • @hempev I know, that, that's what I was thinking!

  • @Xevnest24 No one ever leaves class to go pee, so I think they do what I do: do your business beforehand and keep any new call of nature for afterwards. I'm sure samurai were adept at rapid removal due to a lifetime of experience - imagine someone who has never had button-fly jeans getting the runs!

  • I have an honest question.... since these pants require so much tying and fiddling with the belts and whatnot to put on... what do you do when you gotta go to the bathroom?
