epoxy boards are noticeably slower relative to standard PU...some say it's because epoxy bounces off any chop rather than go through it. However, I've ridden epoxies (both pop-out and handshaped EPS) in glassy conditions and it's still slower. The waves the people in the vid are riding are fairly glassy...opinions would have been different in any more chop (and/or when the "newness" excitement wears off).
@vin0002 Yeah right! I tried. I contacted my surf shop who took photos and sent them to firewire. Got rejected. I contacted Firewire myself and was told to contact my surf shop. So came full circle and no nefund or replacement board.
I think if epoxy was that great people would buy more. I have one, but rarely use it because the performance is worse. Reason people don't buy macs is cos they are more expensive.
I had 2 boards very similar in epoxy and fibreglass (6'2" both), and definately the fibreglass performed better. The epoxy seemed slower, was more difficult to duck dive, and bottom turns were poor (may have been more due to fins, which were poor quality). Epoxy hasn't taken off at performance level for a reason. However, for beginners and surf trips where you want durability, expoxy is cool.
i like how any kook can get on you tube and key board wizard their way through any vid. what in the hell makes an epoxy board slower?

I got a Firewire epoxy and it snapped while duck diving a 3ft wave. So much for strength!
