Naw, not off the top of my head. I haven't done any work with lasers for about a year now :/ sorry. Laser pointer forums is a really good site with great people willing to help out, check it out. I learned a lot there and got a lot of help!
Driver circuits protect the diode. The keep the current limited and the voltage stable. If there is a spike in either, it could damage or kill the diode. I would recommend a driver circuit but one is not needed to get the laser to work.
No, my laser's burning point is very small too. The video just makes it look a lot bigger than it really is. The beam is really bright and when it hits the black tape it pretty much lights up an area around it.
Well in order to make a bigger dot still cut you would need a higher powered laser diode. What you are pretty much doing is the same as using a magnifying glass to focus the sun and burn ants.
how do you focus it so it cuts a decent amount of space? when i focus it, it cuts hard, but a space like a strand of hair, and not very deep. can you focus the dot big? will it still cut?

Ohh right thanks. sorry to keep asking stupid questions but
do you have any idea what strength the parts should be in the driver. like what sized capacitor or what ohm the resistor should be.
im a noob at this kind of thing : )

Hi, im in the midle of making a green laser.
Do you have to have a driver in order for the laser to work?
here is my lasers specs, tell me what you think.
LOP : 320mA - 390mA
Operational Voltage : 2.8 - 3.2
