This is a tutorial made for the lovely guy and gals of Paleo 414 to explain our use of ImageJ in our large group project. To those not up on what's going down, move along. Nothing to see here.

  • Thanks man! Nice tut! Tell me one thing, is there a way to do densitometry using Image J?

    Thanks

  • @familia77 Unfortunately, I have no clue. You see, I pick up software utilization quickly, but this is all we needed to use it for (large group project). I could find out for you, but it'd just be through googling, etc.

Sorry I can't help, hope you find out!

  • Because of the concave nature of your shell imageJ will actually give your fairly inaccuracy numbers. I had this problem while measuring snail shells (physa acuta). the portions of the shell that are closer to the camera will seem bigger and the portion that are further will seem shorter. I did some percent difference calculation and i found that the result i got with my caliper and the result imageJ gives me(which were always lower) differs sometimes by as much as 7.9 percent.
