A quick demo for an overseas client comparing a 1972 and 1955 MKVI Tenor. Both have Brand new overhauls. Demo is using a Guardala LT gold plate studio model..Both saxes are sale. For information on www.vintagesaxophones.com.au. Sorry for the out of tune In a sentimental mood on the 1955.. lol.. Anyhow should give you an idea of the sound comparison of the horns.
Super nice playing. I tried out my friend's MKVI tenor this evening. I don't know what year it is but it was her moms so I know it's gotta be one of the earlier years. It's sounded ok but I just didn't get that great of a feel out of it. Even though MKVI tenors are known by a lot of people as the best doesn't mean they work amazing for everyone so alway try out your instruments before you buy.
And on a different subject, I've been looking at getting a new professional sax for college and got

I think I like the 55 a little better. It sounds a little more responsive and crisp. Its amazing what a difference the years make. Are the metals any different from one another?

I play a 1966 Mark VI tenor. I'm trying to fix another Mark VI tenor for my friend to play. That tenor is a 1971. We both play in our high school band. The sound quality is great on basically any Mark VI compared to other brands.

As for listening in the video, Id take the 72 any day. The 55 sounds a bit thin. Id probably choose a different mouthpiece for my taste, and that could change my horn selection in the process. Id recommend asking what setup the customer uses, and use that mouthpiece and reed. Might give him a better idea..?

I prefer the 5 digit, but not so far,and it's very important to hear the sax live,it's a totally different experience. They're both very good instruments, and you're also a good player. How 'bout the new guardalas? Are they comparable to the old handmand ones?Anyway if you want you can watch myself playing a 80,XXX selmer mark VI tenor witha ponzol mouthpiece.
