Watch this author video to hear Geoff Dyer, author of literary fiction and nonfiction, talk about his genre-bending books But Beautiful and Out of Sheer Rage, and his literary novel Paris Trance. In this author interview, Dyer talks about some of his influences and intentions for these books, published Picador.
But Beautiful: A Book About Jazz explores the world of jazz through eight poetically charged vignettes that skillfully evoke the music and the men who shaped modern jazz. Out of Sheer Rage: Wrestling with D. H. Lawrence is Dyer's account of his struggle to write a book about Lawrence -- a portrait of a man tormented, exhilarated, and exhausted. Dyer travels all over the world, grappling not only with his fascinating subject but with all the glorious distractions and needling anxieties that define the life of a writer. Paris Trance is a novel about two expatriates, Luke and Alex, who meet in Paris and become inseparable. Each falls in love, and the two couples travel the city together in a fever of indulgence and self-discovery. In this author interview, Geoff Dyer talks about how he began writing Paris Trance as a way to retell F. Scott Fitzgerald's Tender Is the Night.
