The genius of Kurt Rosenwinkel. Absolutely mind-blowing.

From SJU Jazz Festival, 04.16.2004

Kurt Rosenwinkel : Guitar
Eric Revis : Acoustic bass
Jeff Ballard : Drums

You can find the 'original' audio track, which I used to make this video, in the internet if you search for it using appropriate keywords ;) The bass sounds much better there.

C'mon, man. Really, you must be kidding, right?

  • I don't make this comments usually, but I find Rosenwinkel so boring. I just don't like him...

  • Thanks man I got all the tracks ,sounds amazing

  • Metheny is easily as "fluent in the jazz language" as him. Grant Green is one of the most horn-like guitarists of all times. Wes redefined the jazz-guitar language and is one of the seminal hard boppers, independent of instrument. Martino has a "jazz style" that is really hard to match. Lage Lund is a hell of a player in that "contemporary" horn-like guitar style of Kurt. Jimmy Raney is THE bebop guitarist, really "horny" XD.

I love Kurt's playing, but I strongly disagree with you comment... :P

  • I couldn't be this good if I practiced 18 hours a day for 80 years.

  • IMHO Kurt seems to be totally unconstrained by the these complex harmonic structures and to be improvising as freely as no other contemporary or past guitarist. This does not mean they were not playing jazz, but no other guitarist is as fluent in the 'jazz language' as he is. He improvises more like a horn player than a guitarist. Which is actually a compliment ;)

  • @fieldsong dude really, think before speaking, thats like saying Jhn Mayer is the first guitarist ot play the blues

  • @fieldsong - yep. it DOES sound crazy! charlie christian, django reinhardt, jim hall, billy bauer, wes montgomery, chuck wayne, jimmy raney, joe diorio, ed bickert, mick goodrick, pat metheny, john scofield, john abercrombie, bill frisell all came before kurt. you should listen to them.

  • nice choice of Trane pic... the same one one I used for my "BLUES FOR TRANE" CD cover... guitar fans check it out!
