Here's what I did with the rear wheel well on the passenger side. It's pretty much the same procedure as the left one, but due to the location of the fuel filler door, the trimming of the wheel well skin had to be done differently.
This is a long and arduous task, but I felt it was necessary because I wanted to be able to easily fit standard parts in the rear, and other solutions involved welding things to the shocks to make them fit which complicates service and replacement. Moving both the height and location of the upper strut perch allowed me the clearance I needed between the tire and the springs, while allowing me to use any rear suspension assembly from the AWD '91-94 Mitsubishi Eclipse, Talons or Lasers. I had investigated all other options and found this to be the easiest long-term solution to that problem since I had all the tools necessary to do this.
It took me just under a month to do this in what little free time I can muster. Shooting video slowed the project to a snail's pace because I only have the hard drive space to edit an hour and a half at a time and it takes twice as long to edit and export what I've shot. With the project spanning over 30 hours, I had to call professional help on the audio track. The tune is an original piece by RojoDelChocolate, and the samples are from DayjobOrchestra. Two individuals who have kept me highly entertained over the years. Please check them out because they're good people.
Just thought i'd say, as an owner of a C83A factory 4WD Mirage, this really makes me realise how much I take it for granted. Absolutely awesome video man, top notch!

@snowdevl Thank you! I wish I could buy parts from New Zealand (and afford it). What I would do for a factory front crossmember and a front bumper...
I've heard the AWD cars there have a solid rear axle. Is that so?

@Jafromobile Haha, parts over here are getting rare now. Not many of these cars around at all. Used to have a small community of them, about 15-20 regulars, but that has died out over the last few years. I only personally know of 3 people with Cyborgs now.
You're right, the AWD Mirages of this era all ran a solid rear axle. Good for straight line racing I guess, but not ideal for cornering really. Technically speaking, your AWD converted cars over there are probably superior to the real deal!

@snowdevl Nothing good seems to last forever. The reason I asked about that axle is because this is a straight-line car, and just imagine... I would have to have done NONE OF THIS if I could have tacked in rear leaf springs! :P
I guess a limited slip 4-bolt rear isn't too bad for a CSM hatchback, but the lazy side of me is why I want a crossmember. I have a MIG welder and a pile of steel, so really there's no excuse. What we don't have, we're forced to make.

hello! Forgive my question, but what is this?
poi9990 1 year ago
@poi9990 It was a '91 front-wheel-drive Dodge Colt. Same as the Mitsubishi Mirage. The video is what I'm doing to make the Eclipse AWD rear drivetrain fit so that I can use stock suspension parts to bolt it in. So in the end it will still be a Dodge Colt, but the whole drivetrain will be in a body that's about 1000 lbs lighter. The Superleggera if you will... Shooting for roughly 350 awhp in a 2300 lb. car.
