The way I understand it is that managers actually used to try to kick the chalk onto the umps pants because it had lye in it. It would eat a hole through the material and wreck the pants...not sure if that's fact or fiction, but it sounds good.
@undecided8713 o sorry about the comment before. that i meant was a fight but the first guy to kick dirt to tha umpire was a guy named Billy Martin. He was the manager of the yanks only for 1-2 seasons but some time in 1970s he was ejected right away for comming out of the deck, and he kicked dirt to the umpire.
what a grime ball. he is an awful coach, and cubs fans are finally starting to realize they need someone with something more than the ability to flip out on umpires.
