The Creative Triplicity of the Cosmos

This is a compilation of a few clips from Brian Swimme's DVD series "Canticle to the Cosmos" (1990) program #4 "The Fundamental Ordering of the Universe", (available at http://www.brianswimme.org/ ), wherein Swimme briefly describes something of the nature of the three qualities of Cosmogenesis that Thomas Berry has identified as characterising the evolution of the Universe - describing them as "three basic tendencies of the universe at all levels of reality" in his book "Evening Thoughts" p.145. These tendencies/characteristics are named in "The Universe Story" by Swimme and Berry as differentiation, autopoiesis and communion. In the synthesis of PaGaian Cosmology I have identified these three qualities - the Cosmic Creative Triplicity - with the Triple Spiral of Bru-na-Boinne, and the Triple Goddess's three qualities/faces of Virgin, Mother and Crone ... which may be celebrated in the Seasonal wheel of the year: I develop this particularly in Chapter 4 of my book "PaGaian Cosmology" avaialble at http://pagaian.org/book/chapter-4 . Note that at the time that Brian Swimme made this program he and Berry named the quality of autopoiesis as "subjectivity".

Listening to this inspires me to order his new book, "Journey of the Universe," and to see the DVD series. I think Brian Swimme is one of the most exciting and influential thinkers of the 21st century. He is opening up a whole new way of thinking for so many of us.
