Straightened "black " hair does not look like "white" hair. It takes on a different, special quality. If you prefer it, that's your business. I'm glad you appreciate your own beauty.

But, IMHO, women as a rule spend far too much time getting dolled up. We could rule the world if we could pull ourselves away from the bathroom mirror. (;^)

I perm my hair, but it honestly has nothing to do with trying to look white

I know a lot of people might say that i'm bull shiting but I know i am beautiful, i wouldn't dare try to be white or any other race
when my hair is straightened it is much more managable and it doesnt hurt when i comb it it lmao, does anyone agree with me??
I think it is a stereotype that black girls who perm their hair are trying to be "white"

Being a bi-racial woman on my thirties, I can tell u the pain of not fitting in with anyone still hurts. But I get the most grief from black girls calling me high-yella, good hair, etc. Give me a break!! Ask anyone with alopecia or going through chemo they will tell you any hair is "good hair"!!

I too was sent here by Leonard Pitts. I am not black, but this is a very interesting look into black minds. I had no idea in the world about this.

Nice vid, with a lot of guts and honesty that;s for sure. I, too, read Mr. Pitts column. May god bless us all. Thanks for sharing

Anyone else sent here by Leonard Pitts?

I NEVER watch youtube videos if they're longer than a minute or two. Just too busy.

But I wish this one had been longer. The doll test was heartbreaking. Surely it could have been followed up by shots of self-assured black women who are comfortable in their skin. I know they exist, I've met them.

Or are they fooling me?
