  • People's path to becoming rated varies depending on their circumstances and what they want out of joining the CG. Most people go to basic training, go out into the field to their first unit, and then decide on a rating. Some come into the CG knowing what they want to do and get a guaranteed "A" school from their recruiters in a rating that offers it. I'd call your local recruiter to get a better idea of your options.

  • are there any uscg civilian electricians?????

    im very interested in this.

  • I'm glad I found this video, I never knew the CG offered this position. As an aspiring electronics technician my goal is to work on my associates and most likely enlist into the CG to prusue this enlisted career.

  • when joining the coast gaurd, u can just go to training, pass the tests, and become an et, or do u do some law enforcement stuff?

  • haha 1:39 and 2:10 the instructor Josh Nix he was my roommate in ET school thought I heard he went to be a instructor

  • Hey if you get this..please tell me your experience im going in this summer, how was the ASVAB and how long did you wait to enter? What prior knowledge and or education did you have in electronics? Thanks

  • i just signed up for the Coast Guard, did MEPS, Scored good on the ASVAB, and my DEP is Aug 14th and i leave Oct 14th! i'm really pumped up! just need to work on my swimming and i will be a shoe-in! By the way i'm going in as an ET! WOOT!

  • Woot go ET's!!!

  • Have you discussed this with a USCG recruiter? It took my son 6 months of determination to get on board. He is proudly serving now, overseas tour, that is unusual for USCG, and loving it. Talk to the recruiter and see what it you like about the service. USCG has its ships but they work under the Department of Homeland Security, completely separate from the U.S. Navy. The USCG has its sea tradition, if you like a challenge, check it out. (Retired USMC)

  • im thinking about joining th ecoast guard but i need some advice if you joing the cg how often are we going to be oversea or on the ships is it like the navy.
