My 1982 Toyota truck feels underpowered and runs rough until warm (and still a bit rough after that). Hopefully this video has some clue as to what the culprit is. If you think you know, please tell me.

  • Hey Guys. Thanks for the comments. I have a complete, stock carb sitting in my garage now. I'm going to rebuild it and then have it installed by my mechanic (since I don't have all the necessary test equipment and tools). In the meantime, the truck runs well enough. I was really pushing it in the video, which is not really what this truck was built for. I expect it will be a dog even with the stock carb.

  • @82yotaforlife check the connection to the ignitioon coil

  • is it eletric choke? ive had one just like it and the wiring on it was messing up. if you dont have it fixed yet ill make you a vid showing what wire and where it was going

  • Proud owner of 82 pickup , 22R. . so what? warm up the vehicle. this is a heavy duty engine. if you do your research, you will learn that in 83,Toyota addressed concerns about ''engine drag'' and ''sluggish performance''. Their remedy ? Reduce the width of the timing chain by 50% and use polymer (plastic) teeth on the flywheel. The result ?

    Damaged timing chains. Post 1982.

The 81-82 Toyota 22R is the best engine ever made. Do your research.

  • i have a 82 toyota 4x4 and the tach doesnt work any ideas?

  • wtf, buy a new truck

  • uhm, lol my last comment, way off :p

    i'd say carb :p

  • oil getting into pistons (broken/dried/cracked/missing oil ring), can clog the spark plugs o.o

mine had that happen.. and eventually threw a rod cause i went against a chevy nova (street rod, he was messing with me-.-) with three cylinders on the freeway... It's still dead, awesome truck :p

  • fuel fillter and some methelhydrate never hurt either.

  • Seems surprisingly fast if you ask me!

  • probly the carb. my friends 82 had trouble starting and still ran a bit rough and underpowered. got a new carb and runs perfect. great little trucks and it actually feels more brisk and capable than his 02 ranger. even after over a year since i posted my last comment it still runs excelent and hasn't had any problems
