This short video shows how to use a pen in the middle of the arena to work on wide flanking. The pen has a quick release which the handler can open when the dog gets to the top of the outrun (the near cone). Charley is learning to flank wider, and the goal is to get him disconnected with the sheep enough to widen out.
hmm this training seems very interesting to me? I have never seen anyone use a pen like that before. To me it seems to confuse the dog a bit, when I trained my dog to do his flanks I just blocked him with my body pressure if he wasn't correct and he figured it out pretty quickly and I think that is the common way to teach it. Did you have much success with this? I could see this being used to train breeds other than a border collie...
