Why didn't the Virginian have a name ?

The Virginian TV series was adapted from the novel, 'The Virginian, Horseman of the Plains', by Owen Wister. In the book, the writer did not give the character a name other than the Virginian. The TV series followed suit. It lent an air of mystery to the character.

i just love the virginian tvseries i am looking forward to getting 7 mate out here soon as i can watch the show nearly everyday.

i feel in love with james drury and randy boone and i can play the series theme all day long.
