Naughty! No videoing performances!

to put it simply: The Globe rocks and is one of THE BEST things you can do while in London, and is quit affordable considering the quality of what you will experience.

Of course, a walk along the Thames in the Bankside area (touristy and all), catching a show at the Globe, visiting the Tate Modern... just ppl watching and checking out the "buskers" (sp?) = a nice way to spend a day.

I'm still envious of your workshop, how did you get to go? Was it just something offered by the box office or..?

I hope to see this play at the Globe some day. So far I have only seen Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Henry VIII there

Cool point, and wow, sounds like an awesome workshop^^

I've seen a few performances at the Globe, one with a snobby professor who looked down at Globe performances b/c (to him) it is a tourist spot and the acting is a bit more hammy/campy than what you can find elsewhere. I think he is crazy.

The fact that the actors do interact with the audience (groundlings in particular) is probably far closer to how performances were in Shakespeare's time than what many ppl want from "serious" drama now.

@cantecleer You're right of course, and the more people know about the fantastic work the globe does, the better. It is an incredible venue. I recently had the privilege of a workshop at the theatre and had a glimpse into the challenges involved for their actors. Actors often try to get away with looking into blank space so as not to accidentally meet the audiences eyes. On the front of that stage, with audience all around you, up and down, and no lanterns blinding you, that's not an option.

You're right, and there are reasons that recording is prohibited. But, I must say, this is awesome footage and the vantage point is great.

I've used this in classes to give students a sense of what the interplay between actors and audience is like during a performance "in the round."

It is hard for contemporary audiences, accustomed to passively absorbing their drama from tv/movies/internet, to grasp how rowdy, raucous, and involved the audience was.

Wrong and all, it is still useful/fun.
