Now that's a hub of NWA

@fachy1981 Cheap? Not exactly. The -8i came with a hefty price to create, even if it's "just" a redesign. And, in addition, the -8i was Boeing's swansong for the 747. They had to do it. That being said, their "big investment" was the 787. You want Boeing to embark on two big investments at once? After the 787 settles in, they'll start on their next new project. The 737/757 replacement or 747/777 replacement.

looked like NWAs whole 747 fleet was parket at NRT that day :-)

@cx744 Why would any airline fly from such a great city like Tokyo to such a toilet like Detroit? That doesn't make sense.

@civicmind08 me too. Actually, I miss all of nwa. I used to fly their A320's, A319's, 757's, etc all the time. Probably 3 or 4 flights a year. It was such a good airline.

no airport can compare to narita when it comes to countless 747s! just like no city can beat nyc when it comes to countless buildings!

I think 747-800 is a cheap and boring replacement for the classic 747-400 series in my minds eye. Boeing did not want to invest in all new 747 replacement as it was seen as too risky a buisness venture. I applaud Airbus once again for taking the risk and pushing the envelope in terms of innovation and design technologies. I think Airbus have pushed aviation 20 years into the future whereas Boeing are still tinkering with a 1960s 747 design.

I miss all those NWA 747's I use to see at Narita

Ah, the good ole days at NRT...I miss the 200's.
-
I used to see NW 747-200s at Detroit.
Just for the record...
Majority of the media is getting the information on the joining of the two airlines wrong. Delta did not purchase/take-over Northwest, it was/is a merger. It ended up being decided to take the Delta name over Northwest so many assumed it was a take over by Delta.

Thanks for that correction - I've put it in the liner notes.
