This video shows work in cultivating Effortlessness.

This is an amalgam of material I have studied/am studying from various arts that have these mentalities, such as Systema, Bujinkan/SKHayes ninjutsu, "agility" aspects of Western Martial Arts, and Cheng Hsin (*thanks, Al*).

These mentalities are valid for all martial arts and artists in the end, as principles are by definition beyond/behind/the essence of technique.

The words written on the screen are simply a translation (more or less) of what I was saying in that moment in Italian.

  • I notice that this way to fight needs a lot of space, so you can move around the aggressor, instead if you work on strength you don't need to move - but you haven't the same results! - , am I wrong?

  • @bidibum, remember that this is just practice. Not only practice, but I am also showing other people (who are standing off-camera to the left) examples of this practice, so things are drawn out.. It's extended and exaggerated so that the point (which for whomever is doing it, is a sensation, and whomever is watching it, is a visual example of the form/structure/movements done while having that sensation) is made all that more clear.

This could be done laying on the floor or back against a wall.

  • Beautiful video.

Even in combat there is a beauty to the way a body can move. Well done, my friend.

  • Some movements seem Systema inspired. Looks nice!

  • @bidibum I am a writing professor and magazine editor. I assure you my reading comprehension is high. Perhaps you did not adequately articulate yourself?

You question the use of movement and suggest strength training will lead to being strong enough that a defender can remain static, which is only true if the stronger person isn't defending against a technically skilled opponent. Then you ask if your claim is wrong. The answer is yes because the techniques in this video will beat strength.

  • @slapmagnit Maybe you can't read...

  • @bidibum You are wrong. Good technique always beats sheer strength and all good martial arts are founded on principles of footwork and movement.
