hmmm... elephants are group animals, arent they suposed to let the elder females to help in the process of birth? as far as i know, elephats are not supposed to give birth alone.

For those wondering how it saved the infant's life. Did you notice that she was kicking it's chest and realigning it to kick its chest more. It is the equivalent to CPR when you press rapidly on a human's lungs in accordance to estimated breathing pattern to start their breathing back up. Then she lifted the head and snout to drain fluids from both the snout and throat. Elephants are intelligent. They make the connection to air giving life. lungs expand and shrink. And fluids get caught.

That was so cool & good they left the elephants alone. Mommy knows best after all. Elephants are so beautiful and intelligent!
