The train sure makes a racket when crossing the joint in the rail between the swing bridge and the solid portion.

@soshmed1 The swing bridge is basically two separate truss spans that meet at the pivot and are held together by the lighter framework in the middle.

The center part of the bridge looks mighty flimsy !!

One summer day, the bridgetender invited me out on this bridge to take a look around. It is very interesting. This bridge was completed in 1876 and will be soon be replaced by a raising bridge similar to the ones they have in Duluth.
didnt that bridge used to be owned by the MILW

Yes, that bridge has a long history, replaced a winter ice bridge/summer ferry service, for the La Crosse Railroad/Milwaukee Road/Soo Line and now Canadian Pacific Railway. It has been rebuilt a number of times.
