Big Time is a theatrical concert movie released in 1988, another wonderful Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan collaboration. This is truly a rare treat, he doesn't tour that much any more and this movie is a good way to make you regret missing out on his live acts even more.
At this point of his career he is leaving his early jazz years behind and
develops the roaring vocals around experimentation with various genres and instruments.
This segment features songs Frank's wild years and Shore leave.

It's interesting how New Years Eve seems to be a reccuring thread in Waits' ouvre; A Sight For Sore Eyes in the late-70s, Big Time in 1988 and, of course, New Years Eve in 2011.

I'm not sure if he would've been a good choice, he's not into theatre that much, I think Blum did an excellent job.
