Danny really PLAYS music, not just easy straight drum patterns (as you can see in shitty bands nowadays). I mean, writing your own music in this complex patterns is not something you simply ignore as a fan.
-
@zorac91 That's right. They're supposedly going to write a new album soon. I wonder what the complexities will be this time...

This is the easier part.. The tom/kick/hi-hat polyrhythm in the verses are what gets me..

Bass Drum: Kick on the first four sixteenth notes, the sixth sixteenth note, and the eighth sixteenth note. Here's a helpful tip/observation: every time you kick with your bass foot, you should simultaneously switch the hi-hat position with your other foot.I can see how/why this part is difficult for many people. I should mention that I'm ambidextrous (and I also play open-handed -- like Carter Beauford -- instead of the usual cross-handed), which probably makes this part much easier for me.

/\2nd post/\ Hi-Hat foot: Keep closed on all but four notes. Open on (a) the first eighth note; (b) the second eighth note; (c) the sixth sixteenth note {i.e. halfway between the third eighth note and the fourth eighth note}; and (d) the eighth sixteenth note {i.e. halfway between the fourth eighth note and the fifth eighth note}. Equivalently, if you can count all ten of the sixteenth notes, just play open on 1, 3, 6, and 8, and closed on 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, and 10. An "X/O" tab would be: XoXooXoXOo

@13TeK11 I actually don't count when I play this part, because it's counterproductive for me -- it screws up my rhythm, ironically. However, if you are counting this part, I believe it's as follows:Overall: 5/8 beat.Snare: You are correct. The snare is on the fifth (i.e. last) eighth note, and I always make it an accent as well.Hi-Hat sticks: Just play straight sixteenths. Accent all four of the opens (see second post). Also accent with the lone snare hit.

@kevman237II if it would be usefull if you are used to play the quintuplets u can think of it as quintuplets in 4/4 with the first 16th note played witha a double or a diddle if u want (in 32th notes) weirdly it fits xD
but i can't figure it out what is playing on the second part
i guess the snare is on the 5th note of the 5/8 beat and the kick seams playing the firsts 3/8 and the hi-hat is reminds me the groups of 5 accents but when i count it doesnt fits! how do you count all this mess?xD
-
@punkstreetpunk well actually i'm playing that with cheapest pedals from mapex (i bought it for ~70$) I'd say technique matters
-
I actually struggle with the first part (the hi-hat-only part)! I have no problems playing the second part (i.e. the full beat which you tutorialized).
It's just that hi-hat rhythm that always confuses me......

What hihat is that?!

Thank you so much I actually learned this from this video THANKS!

wow you really need a fast and responsive pedal for that dont you? I have a sonor pedals but they aren't that fast and responsive. i read on the net about how you should tighten the spring tension.
any suggestion guys?

@punkstreetpunk As long as the spring tension is comfortable for you and it allows you to maximize your energy, you'll be able to play this with no problem. Try a tighter tension but I generally like to tighten my kick drum head so the beater bounces off of it more easily. That's how I go for more responsive... Hope that helps!

MUCH APPRECIATED! you got some serious skills and like mentioned many times ur expansive kit sounds wicked, especially the kick. i look forward to an aenima tutorial. this will help tremendously.
