Limiting opera and bel canto to trills is just a nonsense. There is much more in opera and especially here (intensity, pure and natural singing) and in all Anderson's career in the most difficult parts and French repertoire (as for lazy you have many other choices) throughout the world.

Oh, and absolute the best in this role is M. Caballe! (the role she became know to the world with the concertante performance in New York!)

Thanks for your comment, nice to hear from you since the Trieste performance. And thanks for remettre léglise au milieu du village (I cant find the words in English, put the church in the middle of the village? sounds strange!) with Caballé standing for Horne in 1965.

In spite of the hysterical comments I get from xxs fans, it is obvious that we do have here an heir from the Callas, Sutherland, Caballé art. each single note shows it but perhaps the best testimony lies in the Maffio Orsini scene Ive posted here.

Hey now!  I enjoy Gruberova a lot myself, but June Anderson is a fantastic singer! No need to discredit another fine interpreter of the role. Might I suggest that perhaps June's rendition is more beautiful (although perhaps not as dramatically thrilling). As for the trill thing, who the heck cares? If that's what you're concerned about then you've completely missed the point. Brava June!

I like them both and I have heard them both this year (2009) - not as Borgia, but June as Norma in Trieste and Edita as Lucia in Vienna. Edita's last Borgia (from Munich) is not the best, but still ful of great singing and you must know she's 63 y.o.!!! June is younger (57 y.o.) and still great, but Edita at here age was better. I allways have and still enjoy both!!!

Although it's disappointing that June hadn't sung this earlier in her career when the Eb's were there, she more than makes up for it with her always dependably fabulous artistry. Dazzling coloratura, very innovative bel canto ornamentation, and heartfelt singing. Always a class act from Anderson.
