President Obama is expected to announce next week whether or not he will send additional troops to Afghanistan. What decision do you hope he makes? Has Obama taken an appropriate amount of time to weigh his options regarding a potential troop increase or has the deliberation process taken too long? Do you think the conflict in Afghanistan will play a role in defining Obamas presidency?

Brzezinski: U.S. should forcibly stop IAF flying over Iraq to reach Iran[,,,]

Zbigniew Brzezinski, Carter's national security adviser, said on Sunday that U.S. forces should forcibly prevent the Israel Air Force from reaching Iran to strike its nuclear facilities.[...] Brzezinski said that Israel forces have "to fly over our airspace in Iraq. Are we just going to sit there and watch?" [...] he said the United States would "have to be serious about denying them that right."

  • In mid-December 2001, right in the middle of the battle of Tora Bora, John Kerry supported the administration's strategy: "I think we have been smart. I think the administration leadership has done it well, and we are right on track." Kerry only cautioned against using too much force: "I am not for a prolonged bombing campaign," he said.

  • John Kerry was all for the Special Forces approach at the time. He told an interviewer in late 2001 the United States could avoid making Afghanistan into another Vietnam, "as long as we make smart decisions, and we don't go in and repeat what the British or the Russians tried to do. And I don't think we will; I think we're on a different footing."

  • That Senate report on Tora Bora is bullshit. Obama's decided to relearn Russia's lesson and reignite nationalistic opposition to a large foreign troop presence--something Bush avoided by relying on Special Forces, who handle that terrain better anyway. But O's base staged a huge anti-war demonstration last month, so Kerry ordered that report drawn up to get you koolaid drinkers riled up again in your hatred of Bush so you'll forget that you think we shouldn't be in the MidEast at all.

  • 'Appears to be unconcerned'. On what basis. I know the neo-cons [ who led us into the misadventure in Iraq] and Isreal lobby have been spoiling for military intervention, which of course would be disastrous re oil prices and I am aware that neither of them would like it advertised that Isreal has the most powerful military in the region [ we subsidize them w/ billlions per year and they have an estimated 100 to 150 nukes] and are well able to take care of themselves.

  • Do you think the appx 100,000 Iraqis who died during W's misadventure think it was a better idea to fight them in THEIR country than ours? And nevermind that Al Queda was swiftly driven out of Afganistan in 2001 and that Bin Laden was pinned down in Tora Bora [but W. failed to greenlight using US troops to finish the deal] and that had Bush not grossly under-resourced Afghanistan for 7 years not another US troop would be in harms way there.

  • Good luck trying to kill terrorists in Afghanistan. Iraq was the better place to attract them to and fight them. We're back-tracking all the way to Sept 10th, 2001. We'll be there again once the man-child president gives up on Afghanistan.

  • Obama appears to be unconcerned about Iran's acquisition of nukes. It is in that context that I say Barack Obama is the Neville Chamberlain of our day.

  • The US is bankrupt and on the way to final collapse in Afghanistan.
