If you live in Detroit or elsewhere in Southeast Michigan, visit http://www.goodwilldetroit.org to learn how Goodwill Industries can support your efforts to earn a job. And, learn more about how you can support Goodwill's efforts to support Metro Detroit jobs and help residents become "Trained, Trusted and Ready to Work."

True Life Story: Damien Bradfield
Do you remember your very first job? Go ahead. Think back. Whether it was several decades ago or only a few years in the past, I bet the memories are still vivid. If you are like me, you probably learned some important lessons from that job that are still impacting you today. Work is like that... at its very best, work not only provides a means to make an income and care for our families, but it teaches us about life. Through work, we learn how to stick with it, see value in other people, come together as a team and accomplish meaningful goals. At Goodwill, our training and employment programs offer so much more than "just another job." They are places where people learn skills, develop confidence and make connections that can serve them for the rest of their lives.

It's 12 o'clock. It's the middle of the work week.
And it's time for a break. Like so many office workers
in Downtown Detroit, Damien Bradfield steps out from
behind his desk and heads down to street level to take a walk and get some fresh air. Over the next 30 minutes, he'll cover a
dozen blocks before circling back to Compuware's shining headquarters
at Campus Martius Park. And just before it's time to head upstairs and get back to work, Damien will take part in a self-made ritual of sorts. He'll walk by Goodwill's Ben & Jerry's PartnerShop, gaze through the window, maybe even stop in to say a quick hello, and he'll pause to remember the impact this place made on his life. Damien says with a friendly smile, "Most people come to Ben & Jerry's for ice cream. I guess I come here for reflection."
