A special boxset deserves a special ramble, especially when one of the greatest movies ever is involved.

Note how I entirely forgot to mention the rather nice extras, the best of which is a commentary with Verhoeven himself. Very informative.

I also tragically failed to mention another major connection between RoboCop and Total Recall. See, our good friend Arnie was considered for RoboCop's title role at one point, but they thought his considerable bulk would fill out the suit too much and create something akin to the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. That might have undermined the film's more serious side, but I still believe my theory that Arnie's inclusion can improve any film would have prevailed.

"Serve dah public trust, protect dah eenocent, uphold dah largh!"

Or if that's not to your liking, then consider how he might have approached playing ED-209...

"Please put dat cookie down! You have twandy seconds to compleh! GNANARRAGH!"

Now you can't say that wouldn't be outstanding.

  • @3DxVenomZz Either way, gotta love good old practical effects.

  • I found bits like when that guy gets shot to death by ED-209 at the begining grim too and when murphy gets mucked up when they shoot him with shotguns. But i find the toxic waste more painful and horrible to watch when you see his skin just falling off.

  • @3DxVenomZz I'm surprised how often people mention that scene instead of the two separate instances in which guys are blown apart with a hail of lead. That always struck me as more awesome, whereas the toxic waste paste is just...strange.

  • I first watched this when i was 10yrs old and your right it is a very gory film but it gets insanely gory when it gets to the toxic waste incident bit......
