The following footage was filmed during a spearfishing competition at Harmers Haven, approximately six kilometres south of Wonthaggi Victoria. Harmers Haven offered quality fish, and some unwanted visitors. Apologies for the rough footage, but it was one aggressive shark.

i would be kinda pissed at the shark, but its only fair, especially if i get out unharmed. we go into the sharks home and take his food lol.

I think you mean 150lb? 6-7 foot sevengillers only weigh around the 60Kg mark.There really isnt much to them.They look very solid but once the guts is pulled out all the weight is in the head and in the trunk towards the tail.

Thank you all for your brilliant comments. Sorry have been so slack in replying to your questions etc.
Ok lets set the record straight. There was no BULGE left in the back of my wetsuit. Yes the menacing shark was a Seven-gilled shark (Notorynchus cepedianus). Yes these sharks can be bullies, and yes 95% of time pushing them away (or short sharp blows with a fin or butt of your gun) will get rid of them - this was not the first time diving with bully sharks.

Sorry if this is a stupid question (I'm not a spearfisherman), but what would have happened if you had speared the shark?

Spearing the shark would have almost certainly resulted in losing my gun and anything attached to it. The shark was 2.5 meters plus and would have weighed in excess of 150kgs most of which is pure muscle. Thus resulting in one very pissed off fish which can swim very, very quickly and drag me along with it. Not such a good idea. One last thing, it is not illegal to spear sharks in Victoria, stupid, but not illegal (will the exception of those that are protected obviously).
