I actually visited him today. It's his 94th birthday. Unfortunately, he isn't responsive to communication, so I just held his arm and wished him a happy birthday... After seeing him today, it's great to watch this video (the only performance film I've ever seen of him) and recall what an absolute vocal genius he was. Thanks for uploading this!

Rev. Claude Jeter, I am happy to have met you in person. Those visits in your hospital room, talking about the song you wrote about your mother. You are up their with the maker.

@jumaepw Claude Jeter is layin' it down in the most heaviest fashion somewhere in the universe for all of eternity!

@jumaepw Brother Claude Jeter passed away several years ago. Sorry, but he was one of my favorite singers. There will not be another like him.

I just saw a film called "Rejoice And Shout" that contains a different song from what looks like the same performance. They were mesmerizing. That four minutes of the film is easily worth the price of admission (but the rest of the film is wonderful, too).
ps - I have nothing to do with the film or its exhibition. Just a major fan of these great groups.

Wow. I can appreciate this

You can tell that the Temptations totally got there sound from these legends and the Dixie hummingbirds! Listen to that "shoveling coal bass"...tenor like a kite soaring in the sky! The harmonies are no joke! Soul music and gospel music at its best!

The often imitated legend, Claude Jeter is still living. In past years he has attended the AGQC in Birmingham, Alabama. Today, he resides in New York in an assisted living facility.
