On the tour of the PCS phosphate mine in Aurora, North Carolina, we see a couple of the three draglines that are in constant operation in the mine. These are some of the largest machines on earth. Compare the one dragline with the semi-truck trailer in the foreground.

Phosphate is used to manufacture fertilizer and phosphoric acid. This is one of the largest phosphate deposits in the world and a fantastic location for finding fossils of the Early Miocene and Pliocene. Famous for a great location to find teeth of the giant extinct shark Megalodon.
