  • i do the same in my 89 vert AOD

just keep it in drive instead of overdrive. sounds better anyway. i haven't driven that car in months though, it's been all but replaced by a 95 5-speed 5.0.

  • Nice!

  • That's really great! I know mine would be a couple mpg less that that...the 72 351 Cleveland gets about 11 around town! LOL

  • I've managed 18.8 mpg with city driving in the AOD 'vert

  • Yeah, I know what you mean! it likes to shift at low rpm..I guess it's calibrated for mpg..have to say, that mine gets a respectable 20 on regular on a trip..

  • Ouch. My dad's 88 Vert is a 5.0 AOD car. I like it, but the overdrive likes to lug itself in town way too much. I find myself coasting around in neutral and holding 3rd gear very often.

  • Yeah, the AOD on mine had to be replaced because the plastic end of the kick-down cable came off, grinding up the tranny. The new cable has a brass end! lol

  • LoL, burnouts with this car is so much easier to me because it a 5-speed. Dump the clutch and go!

  • Whoa, dude! I won't be doing that to my '88 AOD...lol!
