  • Oh my god, they DO pronounce the "th"! my last name's crosthwaite and we don't say the "th". it sounds like crosswaite. My great (maybe great great) grandfather was an english immigrant to the states. :)

    Regarding the pronunciation of Crosthwaite, locally the 'w' is silent and the 'ai' somewhat suppressed (i.e.Crosth-te) and elsewhere in the Lakes the 'w' if often silent - as in Keswick (pronounced Kesick) or Cunswick (pronounced Cunsick).

  • Lovely video. My ancestors lived in Crosthwaite in the 18th and 19th centuries. It gives me a feel of the place and I would dearly love to visit the village.
