As Egyptian elections begin the people of the nation are waiting with some degree of anxiety to see what will happen next. The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) has continued the horrors of Mubarak style governance, killing dozens of protesters in Tahir square in recent days. The elections have been set up to be incredibly complex, obscured and open to manipulation and few candidates have had any chance to get campaigns off the ground.

In this interview Bruce Fenton interviews Bassem Bayomy, a young peaceful direct action protester and social media activist. Bassem (a Pharmacist) represents the educated youth that have embraced the revolutionary spirit and are taking to the streets in droves.

Egyptian people at all levels and in all roles agree that SCAF must let go of power and let a real civil government take over. The legitimacy of any process controlled by Mubarak's generals is questionable to the extreme and independent observers have already made loud criticisms of the voting process being described, badly, to them. Nobody has faith in the elections and the expectation is that blood will again run on the streets of Cairo as peaceful protesters fall foul of a dying regime fighting for its life against its own people. We stand firm with the Egyptian people, let us pray to again see Egypt in its ancient role as the greatest nation in Africa.
