Sovereign governments absolutely have the right to coin money - to create money out of nothing. Yes, if you print too much money you risk runaway inflation, but a moderate amount during a recession/ depression should help. Licoln financed part of the Civil War by creating greenbacks by act of congress.. this causedreal, but manageable, not runaway, inflation.

I agree. It does not matter who controls the legislature. The legislature is responsible for presenting a balanced budget where hard choices must be made. No one wants to make hard choices. They would rather promise the moon and pass the problems onto the next guy . . . and it doesn't matter if they are Rep or Dem.
