It is truly amazing that a songwriter and musician can continue to produce music of this calibre and depth consistently over so many years and still be a relatively cult performer. Matt is one of the few genius' of the musical world over the last 30 years.

i couldn't have said it better myself. i'm in my 40s now too, and he's always "been there" for me :)

I have been looking for this song for 11 (yes eleven) years...
Thanks for sharing

Agree. Fantastic stuff. There is a shift too in the chronology of his writing from angry, lustful to uncertain, regretful. It's brilliant music.

@hamsterinablender I would love to agree with you. I miss Matt so much but he has produced very little of any note over the last 10 to 15 years or so. Naked Self was about 10 years ago an although good I don't think it was what he intended. Come back Matt. Please.

I think 45 RPM is definitely one of the best collection albums I've ever heard.

Nah---they were never more than a small cult fave in the U.S.---they were too diverse, weird ,dark and disturbing for the airwaves---their songs still kick ass, though, after all these years--this is the firstitem I'm hearing this one, though. Sadly, the only album I have by them (it's a casette, actually) is their 1995 release, Hanky Panky---their version of Hank Williams' "I Saw The Light" is the absolute bomb off that whole release.

what can I say he's a real genius in terms of music lyrics and the combination of such a marvellous taste.

Matt Johnson is probably the finest song writer of his generation and certainly the equal of any before. His music has been the soundtrack of my adult life, from my first serious girlfriend playing me her sister's copy of Soul Mining whilst I waited for her to get ready for our first date, through to seeng The THe with my wife before we were married and playing his music to my kids in my 40s. I love you too Matt.

I though I'd heard everything by Matt Johnson. What is this song from? Thanks for posting - you're awesome!
