Joe's POV--it's the next day
I walked over to Nicole's locker and tapped her shoulder. she turned around
"hey, baby!"she said smiling
"hey. so, why'd you hang up and get mad at me?"
"because...my dad called you. and I didn't want him to know about us"
"well why not?"
"Joe, you know he's abusive!"
"yeah, I know, but-"
"but nothing. i'm not ashamed of you, it's just, I'm afraid of what he'll do to me..or you in that case. and please, don't come to my house, unless he's gone, and I'll tell you when he's gone, ok?"
"ok, got it"I grabbed her hand, and felt something raised on her wrist"Nicki what is this?"I asked trying to analyze it
"um, nothing..."she jerked her arm back, and rolled the sleeve of her jacket down.
"Nicole, did you cut yourself?"she sighed
"yes, Joe I did. but it was the first time, it will probably be the last"
"no, it WILL be the last"
"But Joe-"
"no buts! if you hit the right spot in your wrist, you'll die! No more cutting, Nicole"
"fine"I couldn't help but feel horrible for her. she didn't deserve this. she was a good girl. she still is, even through all she's been through, all I've put her through, all her dad's put her through, her mom passing away, everything. but she still manages to stay strong. and that's one of the many reasons why I love her.
