David Wood, Deputy Director of EBU Technology & Development, explains why Loudness is such a pressing issue for public service broadcasters.

Mr Wood chaired the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) working group that finalized the "Standardization of Loudness Metering for Use in Broadcast Audio". It was this work that received the Technology & Engineering Emmy Award at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show, in Las Vegas, on January 12, 2012.

This clip was kindly shot by the ITU, with which the EBU works closely on a number of areas to do with broadcasting.
