A short video of the vertical ball lift for a lane pair. Note the pin elevator wheels turn in opposite directions; the polarity of the back end motor (which powers the distributor, carpet, pin wheel, ball lift) must be reversed so the direction of rotation is correct. Because the motors are in opposite direction, the ball lift is powered by either or both motors (note the twin belts leading from the motors' main drive shafts to the ball lift).
These machines are equipped with a proprietor add-on (not seen). A solenoid is wired on the same circuit as the table motor, and when energized, unlatches the ball door. Until the table begins moving on a cycle, the ball rests against the ball door. This delay allows pins to be moved away from the door area by the carpet, significantly reducing the incidences of pins entering the ball door opening. Watch on the cycle; the ball doesn't start coming up the ball lift until the table cycle begins.
These are the older vertical lifts, with ball doors on either side. Some of the machines in this center are outfitted with the '70 ball lift (by definition: those are 82-30B machines). There are no kickers on the old ball lifts and once inside the lift area, the balls lift fine. Those gripper kits, do they refer to the '70 lifts?
