So I haven't gone and found that Reuter cart yet, but that is my objective for this coming weekend!

These ancient carts are currently owned by Basin Disposal of Walla Walla. They use these carts all over town for commercial recycling. I found these particular carts at a school a block from my house while I was out on a walk, and had to come back with the camera. These used to be really common down in this corner of Washington about 8-10 years ago, but are almost extinct now.

The blue carts are 1st and 2nd generation semi-auto Dura-Kans. The only difference between the 1st and 2nd generation ones is the lid design, which if you pay close enough attention, you can probably spot the difference. The blue carts were all formerly owned by the company that used to service the Walla Walla County and Columbia county area called DSIwhich was bought out by Basin Disposal in 2007.

The gray cart is an old square Toter. It came from Waste Management of Wenatchee. I'm not quite sure how Basin Disposal acquired this cart because A) Wenatchee is about 100 miles from Walla Walla and B) Basin Disposal refuses to do business with Waste Management. I'm thinking maybe the school itself bought this cart when WM phased out the old square Toters.

The black cart is a fully auto Dura-Kan. It used to be owned by the City of Walla Walla. DSI used to buy a lot of their carts used from the City of Walla Walla before they got bought out by Basin Disposal.

Sorry if this video turned out kinda shitty and seems kinda hurried. This was in a really rough neighborhood, and lots of gangs kept walking by, trying to pick fights with each other off on the other side of the school. Also, some nosy old guy was in his backyard right behind me, staring at me suspiciously and probably would have called the cops on me if I stayed too long. I'll have to go find some of these carts downtown so I can get a better video!

  • Great job! That's definitely a cool mix of old carts.

  • Thanks! There's a lot more to come! Walla Walla is a gold mine for old, rare, and just outright unusual carts! I'm going cart hunting this weekend lol!

  • Awsome carts there I'll b in grandview in like 2-3 months to get some Reuters I saw u mention one in your description for this vid is it in grandview and what shape I'm really in love with Reuter by the way it's rainbowdisposalman some chick destroyed my last account so I made a new one

  • that gray one is what the city of Austin, Texas currently uses.

  • Oh, and why won't they do business with WM?

  • Great find! I love all the old carts, the city of Atlanta has (at least had last time I was there) a bunch of old ones, some with the fork slots on the bottom and detachable lids from when carts first started to appear!

  • That's ok. Family comes before garbage carts. At least you'll get it tomorrow. Thanks for getting it for me.

  • It's no problem at all! I wasn't able to go over the weekend, cause I had to go help my grandma with some yard and house work, but tomorrow (Martin Luther King day) I will be out getting all kinds of carts, including the Reuter for you!

  • The old Leach Beta II had a 2-bar domestic tipper, ancient Bayne if I remember right. I've only seen the new truck going past the yard at 60 mph on the freeway, so I'm not 100% sure, but it looks to me like it has a grabber lift

  • Does it have a 2-bar domestic lifter or one of the automated grabber style lifters?

  • It sure was! Thanks for getting footage of these old carts. I hope I'm not wasting your time. But I do hope you can get that footage! Good luck, and I'll look for it this evening.
