Turning a piece of wood into a hollow form or vessel can be difficult, but Woodcraft has added a new tool to its lineup that masters the challenge—Carter' s innovative new Hollow Roller. Carter designed the Hollow Roller, a captive bar system, for both beginner and accomplished woodturners who craft hollow forms and vessels. One side of the cutter shaft is flat to hold the turning tool completely captive within the integrated roller system, allowing the turner to focus on turning rather than worrying about the tool catching and/or twisting while in use. Roller bars reduce the drag on the tool for better control, and feel, while making a hollowing cut. Other features include a 17-1/2" handle, 21-1/4" blade with a high-speed steel cutter and a steady rest. More at www.blog.woodcraft.com.

  • I really enjoyed the video. The tools look really cool. It also looks pretty safe.

Here lays the problem i see. It's to safe, the artistry and craftsmanship isn't there. You might as well just use a CNC machine or something along those lines. Artists and craftsmen and craftswomen make mistakes. Part of them becoming craftspeople is being able to fix mistakes without it looking like there was a mistake to begin with.

I don't mean to make this sound as negative critisism. Many will be bought

  • Thanks for the input. When our PD guys come across something that they believe will "Help Make Wood Work", we put it in our arsenal of tools. We believe in helping in any way we can thru marketing, not based soley on money and profit, but by listening to the woodworker needs/desires out there. So every comment is important to us, and we thank you for being there. Not every tool is necessarily a "winner", so we shall see the response and feedback. Thank you for supporting Woodcraft!

  • Looks fancy and similar to some others on the market for upwards of $500 so your $350 price tag is in there with the others. I built my own for under $30. I'm hoping one day "turning systems" and jigs won't have such a high mark-up. I've learned almost as much about metal work as wood turning since starting to turn wood a few years ago.

Anyway, good luck with your new offering and thanks for the video.

  • It'll be a big seller. I really like the blue color.
